Oniduro Mi: Tope Alabi may have smaller gods like Sango or Oya – Adelegan reacts

Tope Alabi and Adelegan

Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Tope Alabi was dragged in the mud on Sunday after correcting a colleague for singing the popular song ‘Oniduro Mi’, TrillerTunes reports.

Making reference to the song ‘Oniduro Mi’ which was sung by gospel singer, Evang. Toluwalase Adelegan, Alabi while addressing a congregation as seen in a viral video on Sunday, said it was wrong for the latter to have referred to God as ‘Oniduro Mi’ which simply means ‘My Guarantor’ in the English language.

Reacting to Alabi’s comment over her lyrics, Adelegan who spoke in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH, said Tope Alabi could have smaller gods like Sango or Oya, as her ‘Oniduro’. But that to her, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who was the one who stood by her is her ‘Oniduro.

Explaining how she came about the song, Adelegan said although Adeyinka Alaseyori also has a similar song, which was released earlier this year, she was inspired to write and sing ‘Oniduro Mi’ as far back as 2016 due to the tribulations she was facing at the time.

In the viral video, Alabi noted that God was more than an ‘Oniduro’ as she said that she would never sing the song. According to her, there was a time she wanted to sing the song to exalt God but the Holy Spirit cautioned her against taking such an action.

However, Adelegan in her reaction said: “I saw the viral video of Tope Alabi’s remarks on calling God, Oniduro Mi, last night. God is my backbone (Oniduro). There is a reason I sang the song.

She added: “The year I sang the song, I was going through a lot of tribulations. Things were so bad that even my children were facing challenges. I was frustrated and tired of life. That was when God gave me the song.

“Tope Alabi that spoke about the ‘Oniduro’ song… well she could have smaller gods like Sango or Oya, as her ‘Oniduro’. But to me, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who was the one who stood by me, is my Oniduro.”

“The same Jesus stood when the world was without form. He stood in for the world when God wanted to destroy it as He saw the wickedness of man and He decided to come to the world to die for our sins and set us free. Jesus ended all my tribulations that year. All the ways the devil wanted to ridicule me, Jesus did not permit it to happen. That is why I call Him my ‘Oniduro’.”

Adelegan added that she released the album, Second Announcement, which contains the song, Oniduro Mi, in 2016 and has sold over 25,000 copies of the album.

She said, “The song is the second track on the album, Second Announcement, and it is the hit track in the album. The song is about 11-minutes long. The album was launched in 2016, but we had earlier done the live video recording in 2014 while I performed the song. We only launched the full album in 2016.

“If I give you my albums, you will notice that I do not copyright. I always receive songs; at times, I go through my Bible if I notice that the album does not carry as much weight as I will love it to. I open my Bible and compose songs from it.

“Alaseyori said God gave her the song in 2021, but I released Oniduro Mi in 2016.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has apprehended two Lagos nightclub owners over alleged internet fraud.

According to the anti-graft agency, the socialites, Boniface Odenigbo Amandianeze, a.k.a Armani and Olasunmbo Olawale Winfunke a.k.a Sunbo, were nabbed following credible intelligence it received about their alleged involvement in romance scam, business email compromise, benefit scam, credit card fraud and money laundering.

The two suspects, who own popular hangout, Buzz Barr, located on Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, were arrested recently at No 2A and 2B Oniru Estate, Lagos where they both live, TrillerTunes understands.

According to reports, a large team of EFCC operatives picked up both Armani and Sunbo without warning on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at about 3pm.

Reports by the EFCC also claimed that the duo are linked to a multimillionaire fraud in the United States based on a request by the FBI.

The operatives, who came prepared in the event of any resistance, also raided the duo’s garages and removed every single luxury car, probably to be used as exhibits when they go on trial.

These cars include but are not limited to a white Bentley Bentagya, two white Lexus 570 Sport Utility Vehicles, two black and white S Class Mercedes Benz saloon cars, a Mercedes Benz G Wagon, etc.

Speaking on their arrest, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said asides from those exotic cars, the operatives also confiscated mobile devices, laptop computers, jewellery and wristwatches worth hundreds of millions recovered from them.

Further investigations have also established nexus with other associates who are suspected to be into computer-related fraud.

It was gathered that they are facing a likely extradition to the United States.

However, they have been granted stringent bail conditions which they have been unable to fulfill as the investigation into the alleged crime continues.

They will be charged to court soon.

The suspects run Buzz Barr, one of Lagos’ biggest nightclubs and an exclusive premium lounge, which opened for business in December 2017.

The hangout is known for its casual and intimate lounge setting and famous for its strip clubs and exotic dancers.

It was learnt that Armani and Sunbo, who are best of friends, are fingered in a $35 million dollar fraud and it is alleged that one of their partners in the United States gave them out to the FBI.

Unknown to them, they had been under surveillance for a while, with EFCC operatives happily documenting their lavish lifestyle which they flaunted on social media.

Unlike his easy going and quiet partner, Sunbo, who is married to Tania Omotayo, a fashion designer and an ex-girlfriend of music star, Wizkid, is on the loud side.

He is one of the real big spenders in the Lekki area of Lagos and a darling to male clothiers as he doesn’t spare anything when it comes to updating his wardrobe with designer clothes.

He also runs several businesses besides co-owning Buzz bar.

In the last two years, the EFCC has arrested a number of nightclub owners in Lagos and major Nigerian cities over allegations of fraud and internet scam.
