Divine Ikubor is a Nigerian artist who is popularly known as ‘Rema’ as his stage name. He is well known as one of the Nigerian singers and rappers that made it to fame with his song titled “Iron Man” which appeared on Barrack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist.
Rema is been described by D’ Prince as a craftsman whose work is needed to be heard by the whole world . Rema is 21 years of age and was born on the 1st of May 2000.
Rema Early life and Career
Divine Ikubor grew up in the family of Mr and Mrs Ikubor, a Christian family in Benin city. He completed his primary and secondary education from the Ighile group of school Edo state.
His interest in music started while still at a young age and as a secondary schoolboy. He was spotted in 2018 in a freestyle track “Gucci Gang” of D’ prince which got the attention of the owner of the track to offer him a deal.
In 2019, Rema was signed into the record label with D’Prince Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records and later released his Debut “EP Rema” which was topped as number 1 on the Apple music in Nigeria in 2019.
There was a collaboration on the 21st May 2019 from Jonzing World & Mavin’s record in releasing a music video titled “Dumebi” part of Rema Ep self song which featured a Cameo appearance from Diana Eneje and the video music was directed by Ademola Falomo which has millions of views in YouTube.
Rema’s new sound called “Afrorave” has been announced on May 2021, a sound which is a subgenre of Afrobeats with influences of Arabian & Indian music.
In September 2021, Pepsi Soft drink revealed him as their brand new Ambassador with his label colleague Ayra Starr.
Mavin Record label: In 2018, Rema was signed into Mavin Record after stepping out of the popular singer Reekado Banks from the label.
He was one of D’ prince favourites because he was discovered by him and Rema was introduced to Don jazzy by D’prince which led him into signing Mavin Record label.
In March 2019, Rema was introduced as the future of Afrobeats and as the latest addition to Mavin Records. Rema, therefore, moved on to signing a record deal with Jonzing World in 2019 and released his debut EP, Rema.
